Artistic Designer/ Prototype Engineer

Ronald Guy James (RGJ)

Ronald Guy James / Kinetic Mas’ lead designer is a veteran of the arts with a wealth of experience and knowledge that they can bring to their role. They have a deep understanding of the design process, as well as the creative and technical skills necessary to create innovative and effective designs.

RGJ began in high fashion with Barbie dresses as a child and became an established haute couture designer in his twenties. As part of his formal training, he was mentored by Christopher Morris of the London Fashion Institute from 1976 to 77 where he became a master at pattern cutting and grading. Later when he returned home and expanded into art and theatre circles his talent won him the Cacique Award for best costume design for La Cage Aux Folles (1999).

In addition to haute couture and costume design, RGJ has worked on a variety of performance projects including the 1995 Jean Michel Jarre Concert for Tolerance in Paris, France. He has also taught costume design and construction at the Cleveland Museum of Art and Design and made costumes for their annual Parade de Circle for four (4) years. Nearer to home he was involved with the 1999 Miss Universe Pageant in Trinidad, the closing ceremony of the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup in Barbados, the design and production of the 2007 Machel Montano show in Madison Square Garden, and collaboration with Peter Minshall on many other projects (see below).

The carnival exploits of this master of artistic design and prototype engineering read like a master class in creativity and are a testament to his ability to transition effortlessly and expertly from prototype to production. RGJ created all the prototypes including the manufacture and production of all of the costumes for the following bands as well as the production, development, and manufacture of the King and Queen portrayals indicated below:

Sheldon Warner

Sheldon M. Warner is the artist and designer behind the brand S.M. WARNER art with attitude.
Warner’s philosophy revolves around creating an offering that is unique and reflective of craftsmanship. The emphasis therefore is on the conceptualization and creation of original art in the form of wearable art, acrylic on canvas, fabric, and tableware. The brand is a true representation of an artistic lifestyle experience.
Warner is inspired by the vibes of the Caribbean people. “The way we walk, the way we dance, the way we move, even our motion when we talk. That flow...that feel...that colour.”

When it comes to the creation of his wearable art, there is a conscious choice of use of natural fabrics ~ cottons, linens, voiles and lycra which lends itself to an earthy, yet vibrant nuance that is essentially Caribbean.  The variations of blues, greens, creams and browns of the islands intensify into yellows, reds and fluorescent shades that are inevitable the result of the Carnival vibes infecting the very rhythm of our people.  Gold, bronze, silver and black highlight the background of the tapestry and lend a touch of elegance and majesty to the designs which emphasizes the human figure as a recurring motif in a Caribbean, ethnic and abstract form.

Warner has hosted a number of solo art exhibitions - “Finally”, “A Gift of Colour”, “Me…You…We. All One.” and “All One” and “Believe”
